Hundreds of ACT Wazalendo members and supporters on Sunday thronged Pemba Airport to welcome the party’s national chairperson, Mr Othman Masoud Othman, in a display of unity and political mobilisation.
The supporters, chanting party songs and messages of solidarity, pledged to remain firm in their push for democratic rights as they received their leader on the island.
Mr Masoud arrived in Pemba accompanied by his wife, Mrs Zainab Kombo Shaib. He is expected to spend a short private break on the island, during which he will also visit relatives and family members.
Speaking briefly to the crowd, Mr Masoud said the enthusiasm and solidarity shown by supporters reflected the growing strength of ACT Wazalendo, noting that such unity underscored the party’s resilience despite political challenges.
“Your numbers and energy send a strong message. Despite everything that has happened, you remain united and determined,” he said, adding that the show of support demonstrated the party’s expanding influence.
Pemba has long been viewed as a strong base for opposition politics, particularly for ACT Wazalendo, despite persistent challenges that have marked electoral processes in previous polls.
The reception highlighted the party’s continued popularity on the island and its ability to mobilise supporters.
