UVCCM calls on youth to safeguard peace after election unrest

The National Chairperson of the CCM Youth Wing (UVCCM), Mohamed Ali Mohamed Kawaida, has urged Tanzanian youth to take responsibility for the nation’s peace following the violent incidents that occurred on October 29 and 30, 2025.

Speaking at a press conference in Dar es Salaam on Monday, Kawaida framed the unrest not only as a challenge but also as a warning and lesson for young people across the country.

While acknowledging CCM’s overwhelming victory in this year’s general election, he noted that the incidents revealed the dangers of manipulation and the destructive consequences of unrest.

“The recent violence reminds us that our actions as young people have a direct impact on the nation. Peace is not automatic; it is something we must protect every day,” Kawaida said.

He revealed that much of the unrest was instigated by external actors who exploited social media to mislead local youth into participating in riots, while they themselves remained safe abroad.

“It is painful to see young people with good intentions being used as tools to destabilize Tanzania,” he said.

The incidents caused extensive damage to public and private property, including police stations, bus terminals, health centers, shops, and road infrastructure.

Some injured citizens were unable to access timely medical care because health facilities had been destroyed during the unrest.

Kawaida emphasized that the riots were not lawful protests but criminal acts that disrupted businesses, livelihoods, and essential services, including port operations serving neighboring countries.

He urged young people to learn from the events and channel their energy toward building the nation rather than participating in destructive acts.

“Tanzania was built on unity, peace, and cooperation. When we compromise peace, we jeopardize our economy, jobs, and the future we are working to create,” he said.

Calling for national solidarity, Kawaida stressed that youth must play a leading role in safeguarding stability.

“Let us protect what our parents and leaders have built, and ensure that Tanzania remains a safe and prosperous country for all,” he concluded.
