Tulia Trust rebuilds home for family after devastating fire in Mbeya

Tulia Trust, led by Uyole Member of Parliament and President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Dr. Tulia Ackson, has begun construction of a new home for a family in Ilemi Ward, Mbeya, after their house was destroyed by fire earlier this year.

The incident occurred on the night of September 5, 2025, when an electrical fault sparked a blaze that reduced the home of Anyomwisye Mwalyaje to ashes, leaving the family without shelter or possessions.

Dr. Tulia visited the area soon after the tragedy and pledged to rebuild the family’s house—an assurance now being fulfilled through Tulia Trust.

Delivering building materials at the site, Tulia Trust Information Officer Addi Kalinjila said the charity moved quickly to begin reconstruction so the family could regain stability.

“Tulia Trust remains committed to addressing urgent social needs. We are here in Mwafute to implement Dr. Tulia Ackson’s promise and help this family return to normal life after losing everything,” Kalinjila said.

According to him, bricks, cement and sand have already been delivered, and construction is well underway.

He added that the house forms part of Tulia Trust’s wider initiative, which has seen 22 homes built for vulnerable families in Uyole Constituency, Mbeya City and other regions across the country.

Ilemi Ward Councillor-elect Baraka Zambi (CCM), who accompanied Dr. Tulia during her initial visit to the affected family, confirmed that all major materials had been secured and that the rebuilding work is progressing steadily.

“Ilemi residents will continue working alongside Tulia Trust to support any remaining needs so the project is completed on schedule,” Zambi said.

One of the family members, Nsajigwa Mwalyaje, expressed gratitude to Dr. Tulia and the government for stepping in at a difficult moment.

“We thank God that all five of us escaped the fire safely, even though everything we owned burned. We are very grateful to our MP for giving us hope again, and we pray she continues assisting others who may face similar disasters,” he said.
