The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has strengthened its commitment to supporting small-scale businesses by providing financial assistance to trader groups in Tegeta, Dar es Salaam.
On November 26, 2025, Tegeta Tax Region Manager Mr. Dickson Qamara handed over TZS 2 million in cash to each of five small business groups, aiming to boost their business operations and promote growth. The handover took place at the TRA offices in Tegeta.
Mr. Qamara said the initiative fulfills a promise made by TRA Commissioner General Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda during the launch of a special business facilitation desk in Dar es Salaam on September 27, 2025.
He highlighted TRA’s ongoing efforts to create a supportive environment that encourages entrepreneurship while promoting voluntary tax compliance.
“Empowering small traders is key to nurturing business growth and gradually integrating them into the formal tax system,” Mr. Qamara said.
He added that TRA remains committed to encouraging good business practices that allow entrepreneurs to expand sustainably.
One of the beneficiary group representatives, Mr. Omar Hemed, thanked TRA and the Commissioner General for acknowledging the needs of small businesses and for providing both financial and advisory support.
“This support will enable our groups to grow, strengthen our businesses, and contribute to the economy in the long term,” Mr. Hemed said.
The TRA initiative is part of a broader effort to empower micro and small enterprises, ensuring that more businesses can formalize operations, access resources, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
