Tanzania has officially launched the 2025 Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) Week, observed annually during the second week of November.
This year, the campaign runs from November 10 to 15, aiming to raise public awareness about the growing impact of non-communicable diseases and the importance of collective action in preventing and managing them.
Under the theme “Take Action, Control Non-Communicable Diseases”, the campaign calls on every citizen to take responsibility for their health while contributing to the creation of healthier communities across the country.
Non-communicable diseases such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular conditions, mental health disorders, kidney disease, stroke, and certain respiratory illnesses are on the rise globally and in Tanzania.
According to national statistics, these conditions account for more than 34 percent of deaths in the country.
The Ministry of Health has urged Tanzanians to undergo regular health screenings, highlighting that early detection is crucial for effective treatment.
Citizens are also encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles, including a balanced diet, at least 30 minutes of daily physical activity, and avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption.
In its statement, the Ministry emphasized that proactive health management is essential to reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases and improving the overall well-being of Tanzanians.
