Taifa queens enter camp on Thursday

The local netball association (Chaneta)says Taifa queens will enter camp tomorrow in Zanzibar to prepare for the coming Africa Netball Championships which is slated for next month in Malawi .

The Championships is slated for 8 to 14 December at Griffin Saenda sports complex in ,Lilongwe ,Malawi and eleven African countries are expected to compete at the event .

Chaneta chairperson Devotha Marwa said Taifa queens is made up of 19 players ,Ten from Zanzibar while mainland Tanzania has 9 players

Marwa said the 9 players were selected at this year's National Netball Championships which was held at Tabora girls secondary School.

The Chaneta chief said although the team enters camp tomorrow in Zanzibar ,it has no official sponsors and she called upon Netball and sports stakeholders to support the team financially and with materials.

She named the nine mainland Tanzania players as  Shalon Jovi,Lili Kijuka,Macklina Mwita ,Marycelina Kizenga ,Juliana Mashaka,Gloria Mussa ,Avelina Mihayo and Restuta Majani .

The Chaneta chairperson could not give names of Zanzibar in the team ,saying Zanzibar netball authorities are better placed to disclose the .

She however,said Magereza netball team Winifrida Emmanuel Shenya is the deputy head coach of Taifa queens.

Yesterday,our efforts to Zanzibar netball authorities proved futile .

The tournament is organized under the auspices of Africa Netball and it brings together  South Africa,Uganda ,Kenya , Zimbabwe,Zambia , Botswana,Eswatini ,Tanzania ,Namibia ,Lesotho and the host Malawi .

Reports from Malawi says installation of wooden floor at the event venue (Griffin Saenda Sports complex )which is a requirement for international tournament is almost complete .


The reports also said organizers are opening up the title sponsorship to give leading brands a chance to be part of unifying and empowering sporting event .

"The sponsorship package will include naming rights ,extensive media exposure,brand visibility on events venues and an opportunity to engage with millions of passionate Netball fans across the continent ,

"The African cup is more than just a competition,it's a celebration of women's sports ,team work and African Pride,"said part of the reports .

Meanwhile,Chaneta disclosed that it's elective meeting which was slated for this weekend in Dar es salaam,has been postponed to January next year .

Chaneta,chairperson Devotha Marwa said the postponement is to give the current leadership the opportunity to manage the team preparations for the Malawi Championships .
