The local Taekwondo Federation (TTF) it will hold its elective general meeting on Saturday in Arusha , the federation announced.
TTF ,Secretary general Shija Shija said the elective election is slated for this Saturday at Njiro Complex in Arusha and aspiring candidates for various positions started collecting forms last week.
The official said ,unlike in the previous settings where the elections were open to all interested in the sports from both mainland and island of Zanzibar ,this time ,he said the National Sports Council (NSC)has advised the federation that the elections is for Mainland contenstants only as Zanzibar has its own Taekwondo association.
He disclosed that the current TTF leadership mandate ended last year in October , but they were holding offices on interim basis as the federation had other pressing issues which include financial constraints .
Shija said the those who will be elected at the Arusha elective meeting will serve office for four years.
He said due to financial challenges which the federations is facing all delegates to the election are self sponsored while TTF will provide meals to the delegates .
“ The elections of TTF is slated for 8 November (Saturday)in Arusha at Njiro sports complex ,aspiring candidates stated collecting forms, the current leadership of our federation mandate ended last year October , but we remained in office due to other challenges,” he said.
He said all positions are up for grabs which included the position of Secretary General .
"Now all Sports Associations(federations)in the country and world wide are having an employed person at the post of Secretary General (SG)we (TTF)we have not yet amended our constitution to have an employed person at that post ,so at the Saturday General elections the position of Secretary General will be up for grabs,"he said .
Meanwhile , Shija has said all is set for this year's edition of the Korea Ambassador Cup will be held in November in Dar es Salaam at Upanga Donbosco hall .
The year event will be the fourth edition of Korea Ambassador Cup and he thanked the embassy of South Korea in the country for being the main sponsor .
Shija said the Cup which sponsored by the Korean Embassy and organized by his federation will be held on November 29 at Don Bosco hall.
In the previous events ,TTF was extending invitation's to various countries , but this year the cup will involve local clubs only.
The Cup did not take place last year , but since its inception ,it has been approved as the most attractive and best organized international Taekwondo Cup in the country.
The Korea Ambassador Cup has been used as a platform to select local Taekwondoin who have represented the country at various International events.
Taekwondo is a Korean martial arts and combat sport involving primarily kicking techniques and punching.
The discipline has five tenets which are courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.
