As 2025 nears its end, the Tabora Live Wildlife Garden widely known as Tabora Zoo is fast cementing its reputation as one of Tanzania’s rising tourism gems, attracting an increasing number of visitors for recreation, education, and conservation experiences.
On November 8, 2025, members of the Union of Smart Women (MMN) from Sikonge District visited the zoo for an educational and leisure tour.
The group explored the park’s diverse wildlife and scenic landscapes, encountering elephants, wildebeests most notably the “tour guide wildebeest” as well as Kasongo, a popular warthog that has become a favorite among visitors.
The zoo also hosts lions, leopards, cheetahs, and a variety of bird species, including colorful peacocks and love parrots that add vibrancy to the region’s skies.
In recent months, Tabora Zoo has witnessed a sharp increase in tourist arrivals, a development linked to ongoing government efforts to enhance tourism facilities through the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA).
Upgrades have included improved animal habitats and a new children’s playground, transforming the site into a family-friendly destination and boosting the region’s tourism appeal.
TAWA has extended an open invitation to all citizens and institutions government agencies, private organizations, community groups, and associations to make use of the facility for events such as meetings, training sessions, weddings, and other social gatherings that promote domestic tourism.
Officials say the continued growth of Tabora Zoo reflects Tanzania’s broader push to diversify its tourism offerings beyond traditional destinations.
With its blend of wildlife, education, and leisure, the park stands as a model for community-based tourism development in the country’s interior regions.
“Tabora Zoo is not just a tourist site it’s a living classroom and a source of pride for the people of Tabora,” said one TAWA representative during the visit.
As more visitors discover its charm, Tabora Zoo is steadily positioning itself as a must-visit attraction for those seeking to experience Tanzania’s wildlife heritage in a tranquil and family-friendly environment.
