The regions of Mbeya and Geita were among the hardest hit during the violent incidents that erupted on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

Hundreds of residents were left suffering after their properties, including vehicles, business kiosks, and essential infrastructure, were destroyed by fire and looting.

Eyewitnesses and victims reported that those affected included vehicle owners parked at various locations and individuals seeking services at fuel stations when the violence broke out.

In Mbeya, apart from the destruction of private property, public infrastructure suffered significant damage. Roads and roadside kiosks were targeted, including stalls operated by women entrepreneurs selling food, vegetables, and fruits, disrupting livelihoods and local trade.

In Geita, several fuel stations, including Lake Energies Katoro and Nyankumbu, were looted and set on fire.

Police facilities, including officers’ houses and the Nyankumbu Police Station, were also burned, resulting in the loss of property both inside and outside the buildings.

Authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage, as residents struggle to recover from the losses and the disruption caused by the unrest.
