The Minister for Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, has called on all employees within the Ministry of Minerals and its affiliated institutions to fully embrace President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directive on using the country’s domestic revenues particularly those generated from natural resources to implement development projects that directly benefit citizens.

Speaking on November 18, 2025, at the ministry’s headquarters in Mtumba shortly after being sworn in at Chamwino State House, Mavunde emphasized that the mining sector carries a major responsibility in translating the President’s vision into tangible national progress.

“The domestic revenues directed by Her Excellency the President concern us in the mineral sector directly,” Mavunde said.

“President Samia wants a leadership style that touches people’s lives, so we must step up our pace. And I want every instruction she gave in Parliament, those given today, and those outlined in the Election Manifesto to reach every staff member.”he added

Mavunde said President Samia has placed strong confidence in the Ministry of Minerals because mineral revenues have become an important pillar of Tanzania’s economic growth.

He urged all staff to use their roles to ensure the mining sector continues to uplift communities, boost local development, and strengthen the national economy.

Turning to the Mining for a Brighter Tomorrow (MBT) programme, Mavunde affirmed that the initiative will be fully implemented to empower young miners and women to engage in safer and more productive mining.

Through MBT, the ministry will allocate mining areas to them and provide modern technology to simplify and enhance their operations.

Mavunde also expressed gratitude to President Samia for renewing her trust in him to continue leading the ministry. He thanked employees and sector stakeholders for the cooperation they offered during his previous tenure and reiterated his commitment to openness and collaboration in strengthening the mining sector.

Deputy Minister for Minerals, Dr. Steven Kiruswa, also thanked President Samia for entrusting him with another term of service.

He praised ministry staff for their dedication, especially in revenue collection, and underscored the need to deliver on the President’s guidance.

“The President has given us direction, and we must implement what we have been instructed to do. We left the sector’s contribution at 10.1 percent, but our ambition is to reach 15 to 20 percent of GDP by 2030,” Dr. Kiruswa said.

Permanent Secretary Eng. Yahya Samamba congratulated Minister Mavunde and Dr. Kiruswa on their reappointment and pledged full cooperation to support their leadership.

Mineral Commissioner Dr. AbdulRahman Mwanga also commended the leaders and assured continued collaboration aimed at delivering a more competitive and people-centered mining sector.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening stewardship of mineral resources and ensuring that the sector remains a driver of sustainable development and improved livelihoods for all Tanzanians.
