Girl students' urged to focus on education

By Our Special Correspondent

Education stakeholders in the country have called upon girl students' to fully  concentrate on education in order to fulfill their dreams of having a bright future.

African Child Projects Communication Officer Ms Sophia Msuya narrated this after witnessing the launch of the National Re-entry Implementation Plan held in Dar es Salaam recently.

"While at school, they (girls) should be aware about the reason that has taken them there which obviously is to acquire education and nothing else.

"As such, their full focus must be on education... and they should at all cost resist temptations to engage in love affairs because that is not the right place to embrace such things.

"When they practice love affair, it can lead them to get pregnant which in turn can affect their mission to amicably complete their studies as they are compelled to stop schooling," she said.

Again, Ms Msuya urged members of the community to treat girl students in a similar way they do to their counterparts (boy students) without entertaining discrimination.

"The community has a big role to play when it comes to protecting girl students so that they can too attend school without facing challenges. much awareness is required here.

"Similarly, parents and guardians have a primary role to undertake as far as facilitating girls to complete their studies is concerned.

"In case if their child has pregnant, they should comfort them in a right manner, telling them that they still have enough time to return back to school other than uttering discouraging words to them," she remarked.

She then commended government for facilitating the Re-entry policy which gives students who dropout of school due to various reasons including pregnancy another chance to attain education.
