The Executive Secretary of the Mining Commission, Engineer Ramadhani Lwamo, has called on employees to make regular physical exercise part of their daily routine, saying it is key to preventing chronic illnesses and HIV infections while enhancing productivity at work.

Speaking while opening a two-day peer educators’ training in Dodoma, Engineer Lwamo said the initiative aims to raise awareness among staff about HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases, helping them safeguard their health and improve performance.

“Good health both physical and mental is essential for efficient service delivery. Many of the diseases we face today stem from unhealthy lifestyles, poor eating habits, lack of exercise, and risky sexual behavior. It’s our personal duty to protect ourselves and lead healthy lives,” said Engineer Lwamo.

He added that workplace wellness should be treated as a strategic priority by employers, calling on institutions to include health promotion in their annual plans and empower staff to handle health challenges effectively.

According to Engineer Lwamo, the Mining Commission has set a good example by encouraging sports and physical fitness through staff bonanzas, as well as supporting employees living with chronic illnesses to access proper nutrition and healthcare.

He also reminded participants about the importance of maintaining confidentiality in health matters, saying information related to a person’s medical condition should only be disclosed with their consent.

“It’s important for those affected to come forward voluntarily so they can receive proper support. We should always handle these issues with compassion and respect,” he stressed.

For his part, Jackson Mumanyi, a Mining Technician from the Kahama Resident Mines Office, praised the Commission for organizing the training, noting that it will not only increase awareness but also encourage behavioral change among staff regarding health and fitness.

The training, organized by the Mining Commission, brings together staff from various offices across the country. It aims to prepare peer educators who will champion workplace health awareness and inspire others to adopt exercise and healthy living as part of their daily routine.
