The Bank of Tanzania (BOT) has issued a strong warning to the public about a fraudulent message currently circulating online.
The message falsely claims that the salaries of certain public officials, including BOT employees, will not be processed unless recipients take immediate action.
In an official statement, the central bank clarified that the information is completely false and urged the public to ignore it.
BOT emphasized that all official communications are only issued through its verified channels, including its official website and social media accounts.
The bank called on Tanzanians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious messages or calls claiming to be from BOT. Such scams are designed to deceive recipients and can result in financial loss.
For accurate and reliable information, the public is encouraged to visit the Bank of Tanzania’s official website and follow its verified social media pages on Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube (@bankoftanzania).
BOT’s advisory highlights the critical need for caution when handling online messages, especially those requesting personal or financial information.
