The Regional Commissioner of Arusha, CPA Amos Gabriel Makalla, has assured the Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji, that the region’s security is stable, paving the way for tourism recovery and growth ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

During a meeting on Thursday, November 27, 2025, RC Makalla and Minister Kijaji agreed on closer collaboration to strengthen Arusha’s tourism sector and promote sports tourism tied to AFCON 2027.

RC Makalla highlighted that following the October 29 unrest, authorities acted swiftly to ensure that tourism activities were not disrupted, noting that visitors continue to confirm that Arusha remains safe.

“In Arusha, we prioritized safeguarding tourists and tourism facilities during the unrest. Today, the sector is back on track, and Arusha continues to attract visitors safely,” he said.

The RC also revealed that a five-year strategic plan is underway to boost tourism, including initiatives linking tourism with major sports events like AFCON 2027.

Minister Kijaji commended RC Makalla’s efforts and urged continued cooperation to meet the government’s target of attracting eight million tourists nationwide by 2030, requesting that Arusha contribute at least five million visitors toward this goal.
