ACT Wazalendo parliamentary candidate for Kigoma Town, Zitto Kabwe, has promised that, if elected, his party will ensure all residents receive quality healthcare, regardless of income.
The pledge was made during a campaign rally held yesterday, in Kasimbu Ward.
Zitto criticized the current health system, established under the ruling CCM party, as failing to provide adequate services for ordinary citizens.
During door-to-door campaigns, he visited several patients confined to their homes due to financial constraints, illustrating the urgent need for accessible healthcare.
“I visited a seriously ill girl near Karuta Primary School. Her family’s financial situation means she has no hope of receiving treatment,” Zitto said, highlighting the plight of vulnerable citizens.
He added that the current system often leads to preventable deaths because it favors those with higher incomes.
Despite not serving as MP over the past four years, his office provided free treatment to 143 patients in Kigoma Ujiji Municipality.
“Many patients I assisted were unknown to me. I would get calls about patients in Kipampa needing referrals to Muhimbili, or others in southern Mwanga referred to Bugando. I guided them to bring their control numbers, though most were unaware of the procedure,” he explained.
Zitto further pledged that, if ACT Wazalendo takes control of the municipality, he will revive a program he ran as MP between 2005 and 2010, which allocated 50 percent of MP funds to help citizens pay into the NSSF for health insurance coverage.
“Our goal is to build a model municipality where every resident can access medical care for any illness. If someone passes away, it should be by God’s will, not because we failed to provide treatment,” he said.
ACT Wazalendo council candidate for Kasimbu Ward, Juma Mzee, also pledged to address land survey and registration issues, ensuring proper land ownership documentation for local residents.
