Tanzania’s national women’s football team, Twiga Stars, made a flying start to their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying campaign with a 2–0 victory over Ethiopia at the Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam, on Tuesday, October 22, 2025.

The home side displayed confidence and teamwork throughout the match, delighting fans who turned up in large numbers to cheer them on.

Twiga Stars opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Aisha Mnunka capitalized on a defensive lapse to slot home a well-taken goal, giving Tanzania an early lead.

The hosts continued to press for more chances but went into halftime with a narrow 1–0 advantage.

After the break, Tanzania maintained their momentum, and in the 56th minute, Jamila Rajabu doubled the lead with a powerful strike following a well-coordinated attacking move.

Despite Ethiopia’s efforts to find a way back into the game, Twiga Stars held firm in defense, managing to preserve their two-goal cushion until the final whistle.

The result gives Tanzania a strong advantage heading into the return leg in Addis Ababa, where a draw will be enough to see them through to the 2026 WAFCON finals.

The victory also boosts the team’s confidence as they continue to build on their recent progress in women’s football across the continent.
