Specialist Doctors bring life-saving surgery to Mwanza Woman

A nine-year struggle with a neck tumor ended for Ms. Bernadetha Makoye on October 22, 2025, thanks to a Specialist Doctors’ Camp under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s initiative.

The surgery, performed at Kwimba District Hospital, marks another milestone in bringing advanced healthcare closer to communities.

Chief Surgeon Dr. Mwinyimkuu Lesso said the procedure went smoothly, crediting the success to teamwork between visiting specialists and local hospital staff, who continue to benefit from hands-on training during these camps.

“These camps enable us to provide expert care to patients in their districts while equipping local medical teams with skills that strengthen the entire healthcare system,” Dr. Lesso said.

Ms. Makoye, who had endured discomfort and limitations in her daily life, praised the initiative. “I am grateful to the government for sending these specialist doctors. I no longer needed to travel to Bungando Hospital and received treatment right here at home,” she said.

The program reflects the government’s commitment to improving healthcare access, reducing patient travel costs, and delivering high-quality medical services to every corner of Tanzania.
