The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the private sector to improve the tax environment and encourage voluntary compliance.
TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, made the remarks in Dar es Salaam while addressing members of the CEO Roundtable of Tanzania during a high-level tax dialogue.
The discussion brought together chief executive officers from leading companies across the country.
The forum, themed “Strengthening Public–Private Collaboration on Tax Administration,” explored strategies to create a business-friendly tax environment, enhance tax systems, and boost domestic revenue collection without increasing tax rates.
Mr. Mwenda said the Authority recognizes the private sector as a key driver of economic growth, stressing that continued dialogue and cooperation are vital for building a fair, transparent, and sustainable tax system.
“TRA acknowledges the pivotal role the private sector plays in driving Tanzania’s economy. Through closer collaboration, we can expand the tax base, minimize disputes, and maintain systems that are more efficient and taxpayer-friendly,” said Mr. Mwenda.
He commended the CEO Roundtable of Tanzania for its open engagement and constructive feedback on taxation challenges.
According to him, TRA has welcomed the recommendations and will work to implement solutions that simplify procedures and enhance service delivery.
Mr. Mwenda added that TRA’s focus is not only on collecting taxes but also on enabling businesses to grow by fostering a predictable and supportive regulatory environment.
“We want to be part of the solution in building a better business climate. When businesses grow, the economy grows and that ultimately benefits all Tanzanians,” he emphasized.
The Chairperson of the CEO Roundtable of Tanzania praised TRA for embracing open dialogue and transparency, saying such collaboration strengthens confidence between the public and private sectors and promotes sustainable economic progress.
