The Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), in partnership with Tanzania Commercial Bank (TCB) and the Tanzanian Embassy in Canada, has held a series of investment forums in Toronto and Calgary aimed at strengthening diaspora engagement and promoting investment opportunities back home.
The forums brought together Tanzanians living in Canada, business leaders, and potential investors to explore opportunities available in Tanzania’s growing economy.
Participants were also introduced to a range of financial services designed by TCB to facilitate diaspora investments.
Speaking during the sessions, TISEZA Director General Mr. Gilead Teri reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that Tanzanians abroad play an active role in the country’s economic transformation.
“The government is committed to creating a conducive environment for investment and ensuring that Tanzanians in the diaspora can easily participate in building the national economy,” Mr. Teri said.
Tanzania’s Ambassador to Canada, H.E. Joseph Sokoine, lauded TISEZA and TCB for organizing the events, noting that such initiatives are essential in connecting Tanzanians abroad with opportunities at home.
“Engaging the diaspora is not only about maintaining ties—it is about empowering Tanzanians abroad to become part of the country’s growth story,” Ambassador Sokoine said.
He emphasized that investing in Tanzania offers a pathway for diaspora members to achieve personal economic empowerment while contributing to national development.
For her part, TCB Director of Business Ms. Lilian Mtali highlighted the bank’s specialized financial products tailored for Tanzanians living abroad, including investment accounts, loans, and digital services that make cross-border transactions easier.
“The diaspora community remains an important partner in Tanzania’s economic growth. Through TCB’s tailored solutions, we aim to make investing in Tanzania simpler, faster, and more secure,” Ms. Mtali said.
The events attracted enthusiastic participation from members of the Tanzanian community in Canada, many of whom expressed interest in exploring joint ventures and investment opportunities across sectors such as real estate, agribusiness, and manufacturing.
Leaders of the diaspora community described the sessions as timely and informative, saying they provided clear guidance on how to channel investments through formal government and financial institutions.
The initiative aligns with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s broader agenda to attract foreign and local investment and deepen the participation of the Tanzanian diaspora in national development.
