The Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups has strengthened its efforts to reach rural communities with the handover of motorcycles to Community Development Officers in Iringa Region.
Permanent Secretary Dr. John Jingu handed over ten motorcycles to officers on October 22, 2025, urging them to use the vehicles to deliver services professionally and efficiently.
“On behalf of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, I am pleased to hand over ten motorcycles to Community Development Officers in Iringa Region. These are part of 98 motorcycles purchased by the Ministry to enhance officers’ performance at the ward level,” Dr. Jingu said.
Five councils in Iringa Mufindi District, Mafinga Town, Iringa District, Kilolo District, and Iringa Municipal each received two motorcycles.
Rungemba and Ruaha Community Development Colleges received one each to support community engagement programs and gender desk coordination.
“So far, 110 motorcycles have been distributed nationwide. In 2023, 25 motorcycles were handed out, 85 in September 2024, and 98 this year, totaling 208. This will continue to strengthen officers’ capacity to reach citizens effectively,” Dr. Jingu added.
The motorcycles support the National Plan for Promoting and Managing Development at the Grassroots Level (Bottom-Up) 2022/23–2025/26, launched in February 2023.
The program equips local government officers with resources to improve service delivery at the grassroots.
Iringa Regional Administrative Secretary Doris Kalasa said the motorcycles will ease officers’ work by improving communication, supervising development activities, and promoting economic opportunities such as Village Community Banks (VICOBA) and Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOS).
Community Development Officers who received the motorcycles praised the government for the support, promising to serve citizens with professionalism and efficiency.
