EMU train derailment in Tanzania caused by operational error no deaths

The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) has confirmed an early-morning derailment of an Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) train near Ruvu station, caused by an operational error. 

The train, traveling from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma around 2:00 a.m., experienced the derailment of three carriages. 

A press atatement issued today confirms that no passengers or crew members died.

Following the incident, TRC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, launched a comprehensive investigation. 

A high-level team led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and the TRC Managing Director, together with technical experts and security personnel, is examining the circumstances surrounding the derailment to ensure that similar incidents are prevented in the future.


TRC has assured the public that services will be restored promptly and safely. 

The Managing Director emphasized that passenger safety remains the corporation’s top priority and that lessons from this event will guide stricter operational and safety protocols across the railway network.

The corporation has pledged to provide timely updates as investigations progress and safety enhancements are implemented.
