Don’t embrace evil, Mufti Zubeir urges Tanzanians

The Mufti and Chief Sheikh of Tanzania, Sheikh Abubakar Zubeir, has called on Tanzanians to prioritize peace and the common good before, during, and after the upcoming General Election.

He urged citizens to reject acts that may lead to chaos, warning against embracing evil, especially given the ongoing unrest in some neighboring countries.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on Monday, October 27, 2025, during a conference of interfaith leaders, Mufti Zubeir emphasized the value of peace as a divine blessing and a national treasure that must be protected by all means.

He cited a religious example from the story of Harun during the time of Prophet Musa, noting that defying divine guidance and ignoring the call to do good brought destruction.

“Allah has greater jealousy than us. He does not like to see His creation being oppressed, nor does He approve of people destroying peace or their own nation,” said Mufti Zubeir. “In Islam, pilgrimage (Hajj) is among the pillars of faith. Yet, if there is no peace in the Holy Land, one is advised not to go — even if they have the means — because peace is everything.”

The Mufti further reminded the faithful that God dislikes corruption, selfishness, and actions that harm others, stressing that every individual has a duty to safeguard peace for the well-being of the entire nation.

He concluded by urging leaders and citizens alike to reflect on their responsibilities and to preserve unity, as commanded by God for the prosperity of humankind.
