Two Tanzanian athletes will represent the country at the World Athletics Championships, scheduled to open on September 13 in Tokyo, Japan.
A three-member delegation, including the athletes and their head coach, will depart Tanzania tonight at 6:00 PM to participate in the global event.
Rogath Stephen, President of the Tanzania Athletics Federation (TAF), identified the athletes as Alphonce Simbu and Josephat Gisemo, with Coach Denis Male accompanying them.
“We had planned to send both male and female athletes, but the female athletes’ medical tests were delayed. As a result, only the male athletes will compete this year,” Stephen said.
The two athletes will take part in the marathon, covering the full 42 kilometers each. Stephen emphasized that they are well-prepared, highly motivated, and determined to perform at their best while proudly raising the Tanzanian flag.
