Two karate players one male and one female stand a chance to secure sponsorship to participate in the upcoming World Karate Championships, following a high-level seminar taking place in Dar es Salaam.
The opportunity was announced during a two-day karate seminar at the Upanga Club, which has attracted members of the national team, club players, instructors, judges, and referees.
The training, led by international coach Shihan Ali Tarabeih, aims to sharpen the skills of Tanzanian karatekas and expose them to world-class standards.
Tanzania Shotokan Karate Federation (TSKF) President, Sensei Yahya Mgeni, said the initiative demonstrates how international collaboration is opening new doors for Tanzanian athletes.
“We welcome this support with open arms. Hosting such an experienced trainer is a blessing for our players. It gives them new techniques and strategies that will enable them to perform better in regional and continental competitions,” said Mgeni.
He called on karate practitioners across the country to register with TSKF and the National Sports Council (BMT) in order to access similar opportunities, including seminars and international events.
For his part, Shihan Tarabeih said his mission is to support the growth of karate in Tanzania and help athletes gain exposure to the global stage.
“This seminar is very important. My goal is to provide technical support and also extend sponsorship to two outstanding players whether in kata or kumite who prove their capability,” he explained.
Among the participants, Maryam Salim Islam said she was eager to absorb the lessons and share them with others at her club.
“After benefiting from this seminar, I plan to pass on the knowledge to my teammates so we can collectively grow the sport and develop more talent,” she said.
The seminar concludes tomorrow, but for the two athletes who will earn sponsorship, it could mark the beginning of an international journey.
