TCRA suspends JamiiForums license over misleading online content

By The Respondent Reporter

The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has temporarily suspended the license of Vapper Tech Limited, the operator of the popular online platform JamiiForums, citing violations of national online content regulations.

In a notice issued on September 6, 2025, TCRA said content published on JamiiForums and its social media accounts on September 4, 2025, misled the public and discredited the Government and the President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

The regulator noted that the posts contravened the Online Content Regulations of 2020, as amended in 2022 and 2025.

TCRA further highlighted that the material violated Tanzanian cultural values, customs, and traditions, undermining national unity, peace, and cohesion, while tarnishing the country’s image.

Acting under the Electronic and Postal Communications Act, the authority has suspended JamiiForums’ license for 90 days, effective September 6, 2025.

The suspension also prohibits public access to the platform during this period.

The notice was signed by TCRA Director General Dr. Jabiri K. Bakari, who emphasized the regulator’s commitment to enforcing compliance with national laws and maintaining standards for online content.
