Tanzania is leveraging Japanese support to not only expand its energy infrastructure but also build the skills of local professionals in electricity and gas distribution, officials said.
The Parmanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, met with experts from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on September 8, 2025, at the Ministry’s Mtumba offices in Dodoma.
The meeting focused on improving project implementation while equipping Tanzanian experts with knowledge in designing and managing energy networks.
“This partnership is not just about infrastructure,” said Engineer Mramba. “It is about preparing our engineers and specialists to lead energy projects independently in the future.”
Key projects under review include the Tanzania–Uganda electricity transmission line and the Dodoma Ring Circuit, which will enhance the reliability of power supply in Dodoma.
Additionally, the Ministry is moving forward with a model natural gas distribution project in Mtumba Government City, which will showcase the benefits of using local natural gas for clean cooking energy.
JICA’s support has been pivotal in driving these initiatives, contributing to Tanzania’s broader development goals.
Officials say the projects are already transforming Dodoma, providing reliable power to households, offices, and industries, while creating opportunities for local engineers to gain hands-on experience.
Engineer Mramba expressed appreciation to JICA for its continued funding and technical support, noting that such partnerships are key to ensuring sustainable growth and energy security for the country.
