The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has unveiled a major initiative to enhance customer service delivery through the procurement of 100 vehicles, 100 three-wheelers (Bajaaj), and 284 Bodaboda (motorcycles).

Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday, TANESCO’s Acting Director of Communication and Customer Service, Ms. Irene Gowelle, said the investment followed an inspection tour by the company’s Managing Director, Mr. Lazaro Twange, who observed critical shortages of work equipment in several regions.

“This procurement is designed to strengthen our efficiency in service delivery. The vehicles, Three Wheelers (Bajaaj), and Motorcycles (Bodaboda) have already been dispatched to different regions to facilitate rapid response to customer needs,” Ms. Gowelle said.

The move is aimed at boosting operational efficiency and ensuring customers across the country are reached promptly, regardless of geographical barriers.

She noted that the new fleet will significantly cut costs, explaining that TANESCO had previously been spending about TZS 1.3 billion every month on rented transport.

According to Ms. Gowelle, the deployment of the new equipment is also expected to improve the working environment for TANESCO staff, who play a central role in ensuring reliable service delivery. She urged employees to take proper care of the fleet and ensure it is used strictly for official purposes.

The equipment will be particularly critical in emergency response units that operate 24 hours a day, she added, enabling the company to address customer concerns more swiftly and effectively.
