The completion of a 4-kilometre paved road in Majalila Town, Tanganyika District, is set to transform daily life for residents and drive local economic growth.

The project, implemented by the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA), is part of a broader initiative to improve connectivity across the district and enhance access to essential services.

During the road’s inauguration, the 2025 National Uhuru Torch Relay Leader, Mr. Ismail Ali Ussi, described the project as a catalyst for community development.

“Reliable roads lower transport costs, make trade easier, and create opportunities for people to improve their livelihoods. This is a vital step for the residents of Majalila,” he said.

Engineer Nolasco Kamasho, TARURA Tanganyika District Manager, revealed that the project, located in Majalila Village, Tongwe Ward, cost over TZS 1.862 billion and was funded through the Roads Fund.

He emphasized that the agency ensured the project was completed on schedule and delivered full value for money.

Local residents are already feeling the impact. Maria Shija, a villager, noted that the road will make it easier to reach health facilities and transport agricultural produce and goods to markets.

“Previously, poor roads slowed our work and made travel risky, especially during the rainy season. Now, we can move safely and sell our products faster,” she said.

The Majalila road forms part of TARURA’s ongoing efforts to improve rural and urban transport networks in Katavi.

By enhancing access to markets, schools, and health services, the project is expected to stimulate trade, strengthen social services, and raise living standards across Tanganyika District.
