The National Environment Management Council (NEMC) has participated in the UNESCO World Congress on the Man and the Biosphere Programme, held in Hangzhou, China, from September 22 to 25, 2025.
NEMC’s delegation was led by Director General Dr. Immaculate Sware Semesi, accompanied by Dr. Rose Sallema, Manager for Environmental Research.
Other Tanzanian representatives at the congress included officials from the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA).
The congress aimed at strengthening international cooperation, sharing knowledge and new technologies for environmental conservation, and promoting sustainable management of national parks.
It also provided opportunities to showcase Tanzania’s tourism attractions, enhance community partnerships, attract investment, and highlight the country’s environmental efforts on a global stage.
Dr. Semesi said that the event offered a chance for Tanzania to learn from international best practices and integrate innovative solutions into local conservation strategies.
“This platform strengthens our ability to manage our natural resources while promoting sustainable development,” she noted.
The NEMC delegation emphasized that such global engagement is crucial for supporting Tanzania’s development goals, protecting biodiversity, and creating long-term benefits for local communities.
