Presidential candidate of the African Farmers’ Party (AAFP), Kunje Ngombale Mwiru, has promised to boost earnings for farmers in Tandahimba by ensuring higher prices and guaranteed markets for cashew nuts, groundnuts, and sesame if elected on October 29, 2025.

Speaking at a rally in Tandahimba town on September 23, 2025, Mwiru said his government would set groundnut and sesame prices at TZS 5,000 per kilogram and cashew at TZS 10,000 per kilogram.

He also pledged to establish specialized markets in southern Tanzania, including a major regional market in Mtwara or Lindi, to ease the sale of farmers’ produce.

“Farmers will no longer struggle to sell their crops. We will dedicate entire streets to specific crops one for sesame, another for cashew so that selling produce becomes easier and more profitable,” Mwiru said.

He criticized the current system of cooperatives and middlemen, arguing that farmers continue to bear losses while intermediaries benefit.

He promised that his administration would eliminate exploitative practices and tackle corruption at all levels.

Mwiru also outlined broader development initiatives. He promised better housing and salaries for teachers, improved benefits for police officers, upgraded health facilities, and infrastructure development, including durable roads constructed using locally sourced materials.

He pledged to provide tractors for every ten households and motorcycles for youths aged 18 and above to boost economic opportunities.

On sports, Mwiru said his government would build a modern football stadium in Tandahimba and support competitive teams to nurture young talent.

His campaign emphasizes a farmer-centered agenda, promising tangible improvements to the agricultural sector and livelihoods across the region.
