The Ministry of Finance has called on the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA) to enforce integrity and accountability among its members in order to seal revenue leakages, safeguard public funds, and enhance service delivery.
Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Jenifa Christian Omolo, issued the call on behalf of Permanent Secretary Natu El-maamry Mwamba during NBAA’s 47th graduation ceremony at the APC-Mbweni Conference Centre.
Ms Omolo urged the Board to play a frontline role in helping the government curb financial losses.
“NBAA must ensure accountants, auditors, and professionals in the field adhere to ethical codes and guidelines. Where violations occur, tough disciplinary measures should be applied to set a clear example,” she said.
She commended NBAA for creating the NBAA Verification Number (NBAAVN), a digital system that improves financial record-keeping and reduces the risk of revenue losses and non-performing loans in financial institutions.
Ms Omolo further urged NBAA to prepare more experts for the extractive industries, stressing that discoveries of minerals, oil, and gas require skilled accountants and auditors to ensure transparency and efficiency in resource management.
She also challenged the Board to support the government’s industrialisation agenda by producing highly competent professionals.
“The increase in accountants will directly support Tanzania’s industrial economy because industries cannot thrive without strong financial oversight,” she noted.
Earlier, NBAA Board Chairperson Prof Silvia Shayo Temu called on accountants, auditors, and institutions to embrace the NBAAVN system, which was officially launched on July 1, 2025.
She said the platform enhances transparency by replacing the paper-based model that was vulnerable to manipulation.
For his part, NBAA Executive Director Pius Maneno thanked the Ministry of Finance for its support and announced that 1,233 graduates had been awarded certificates in various categories following examinations conducted between November 2024 and August 2025.
