Tanzania’s National Sports Council has called on football fans to turn out in large numbers on Wednesday to support the national team, Taifa Stars, as they face Mauritania in their second match of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals.
The double-header, to be held at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, will see Burkina Faso take on the Central African Republic at 5:00 p.m. local time (1400 GMT), followed by Tanzania's match against Mauritania at 8:00 p.m.
“The players are working hard not just for themselves but to bring joy to all Tanzanians,” said Neema Msitha, Executive Secretary of the National Sports Council. “We urge fans to come in large numbers to lift the team’s spirit.”
Tanzania opened their CHAN campaign with a 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso and currently lead their group with three points.
Tickets for both matches are available at a single-entry price, ranging from 2,000 to 10,000 Tanzanian shillings ($0.77 to $3.85), according to the Council.
“We are determined to win. Our slogan is ‘It’s coming home’ – and we want the trophy to stay here,” Msitha added.
CHAN, organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), features national teams made up exclusively of players active in their home leagues.
