Simba Sports Club will bid farewell to former team captains John Bocco and Jonas Mkude during the highly anticipated Simba Day on September 10 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Speaking to journalists yesterday, Media and Communications Manager Ahmed Ally said the event will recognize the captains’ outstanding contributions to the club over the years.
“Simba Day provides a perfect opportunity to celebrate and honor our captains for their dedication and achievements while representing the team,” Ally said.
He confirmed that both captains have accepted the invitation to attend the event.
The team is scheduled to return to Tanzania on August 28 from Egypt, where they have been training in preparation for the upcoming NBC Tanzania Premier League season. Before returning, Simba will play two friendly matches.
Ally also announced that Simba Week will launch on August 31, featuring community initiatives, including the construction of a facility at Mafinga Hospital. The club will travel to Mafinga starting August 30 with a delegation of 280 people.
“This year’s launch promises to be historic due to the scale of the event and the celebrations planned. We encourage all Simba fans to attend in large numbers. Transportation to and from the venue will be free,” Ally said.
The team will stop in Iringa town to visit and pray at the grave of former club leader, the late Zakaria Hanspop, before heading to Mafinga.
After returning to Dar es Salaam, Simba has scheduled several activities: a blood donation exercise on September 2, a raffle draw on September 3, and Simba Day match preparations on September 4. On September 5, the club will host a biryani feast for orphans, followed by a charity walk on September 7 and a visit to an orphanage on September 8. Players will hold a training session on September 9.
