More than 200 members of CHAUMA in Segerea Constituency, Ilala District, have left the party to join CHADEMA, citing dissatisfaction with CHAUMA’s leadership and internal systems.

Speaking at a press briefing in Dar es Salaam on Monday, August 25, 2025, former CHAUMA Kinyerezi Ward Chairperson Mndewa Mndewa, popularly known as “Dr. Timo,” said the move was prompted by poor governance and lack of constitutional adherence within CHAUMA.

“We have discovered that CHAUMA’s leadership is not based on its constitution. The party operates for the personal interests of a few individuals,” Dr. Timo said.

He urged Segerea voters to make informed choices during the upcoming general election, warning against supporting parties without strong roots, particularly CHAUMA, which he said has only been active in the area for two months.

“The candidate seeking to run for the Segerea parliamentary seat under CHAUMA previously served as MP for five years. Did the constituents ever see him here? Now he promises loans to groups loans he cannot deliver,” Dr. Timo noted.

He cautioned voters against being misled by campaign promises of quick loans to community groups, describing them as unrealistic.

“Some candidates tell people to form groups and promise loans within three months after the election. This is deception,” he said.

Dr. Timo also warned CHAUMA leaders in Segerea to remain calm, saying he is prepared to expose major weaknesses that have weakened the party’s standing in the constituency.

Former CHAUMA Kinyerezi Ward Information Officer Salumu Nasoro and former Bonyokwa Ward Chairperson Mohammed Mussa also confirmed their return to CHADEMA, citing dissatisfaction with CHAUMA’s operational and leadership systems.
