The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) is stepping up efforts to improve staff discipline, professionalism, and performance through structured paramilitary training.

The training, conducted at the NCAA Paramilitary Training Centre in Mbulumbulu, Karatu District, focuses on enhancing operational readiness, accountability, and patriotism among officers and rangers.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony held on August 6, 2025, Senior Assistant Conservation Commissioner Victoria Shayo said the programme is part of a broader strategy to strengthen institutional performance.

“We believe the skills and discipline gained through this training will improve service delivery and help staff adhere to rules, procedures, and ethical standards,” she said.

A total of 17 staff graduated from two specialized courses. Ten completed the third round of structural transformation training, while seven completed the first cohort of a bugle training course.

The Head of Training at the centre, Colonel Fikiri Machibya, said the programme included drills, target shooting, classroom instruction, and military bugle techniques.

“These trainings aim to build confidence, loyalty, and strong work ethics. We want to prepare our personnel to meet the demands of conservation work while respecting protocol and national values,” he said.

Colonel Machibya added that paramilitary skills are critical in managing security and responding to threats within conservation zones.

NCAA is responsible for managing the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As pressure mounts from both human activity and environmental challenges, the Authority sees staff development as key to sustainable conservation.

By investing in practical and values-based training, NCAA aims to create a professional force capable of balancing conservation priorities with community engagement and national interests.
