Temeke District Commissioner Sixtus Mapunda has invited Premier Bet, through its Premier Project initiative, to invest in sports infrastructure by developing open spaces into playgrounds and arenas that will benefit young people in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking yesterday at the launch of the renovated Mgulani JKT Basketball Arena, Mapunda said Temeke has several open areas that could be transformed into sports facilities.

He emphasized that creating such opportunities would help nurture young talent and keep youth positively engaged.

“We are ready to offer open spaces for the construction of sports grounds. If Premier Project and other stakeholders invest in this, it will be for the good of our youth,” said Mapunda.

“Sports success is not only about talent but also about discipline. Many young people fail to achieve their dreams because the right foundation, including discipline, is not built early enough.”he added

He encouraged the company to consider not only constructing new facilities but also supporting the renovation of existing ones to widen opportunities for the youth.

Amos Mollo, Director of Education, Sports, and Culture at the National Service (JKT), thanked Premier Bet and its partners for financing the renovation of the arena.

He underlined JKT’s commitment to youth development through sports and praised the contribution as complementing President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of promoting sports in the country.

“I commend Premier Bet for supporting the revival of different sports in Tanzania. Such initiatives directly reinforce the efforts of President Samia in strengthening sports development nationwide,” said Mollo.

Tanzania Basketball Federation Secretary General, Mwenze Kabinda, said the upgraded arena will help reduce the shortage of basketball facilities in Dar es Salaam and provide a safe environment for young players to train and showcase their skills.

“This project creates a platform for discipline, talent growth, and opportunities for young people to pursue their dreams both locally and abroad,” Kabinda said.

Premier Bet’s Human Resources and Administration Manager, Amanda Kombe, said the company remains committed to giving back to the community through sports projects.

“The launch of the Mgulani JKT Arena is another step in our mission to improve infrastructure and support youth talent development. We are proud to be part of this journey and will continue expanding our investment in other areas,” said Kombe.
