Majaliwa casts vote in Ruangwa CCM primaries, urges peaceful participation

By Our Reporter, Lindi

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa joined hundreds of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) members in Nandagala Ward, Ruangwa, to cast his vote during the party’s internal primaries for parliamentary candidates.

Majaliwa, who has represented Ruangwa Constituency in Parliament since 2010, participated in the exercise as part of CCM’s nationwide process to select candidates for the upcoming General Election.

The Premier arrived at the polling station early in the morning and cast his vote alongside other party members, reaffirming his commitment to CCM’s internal democracy.

In brief remarks after voting, Majaliwa called on party members and supporters to maintain unity and respect the rules of the party throughout the election period.

“This is a vital part of our democratic culture,” said the Prime Minister. “I urge everyone to participate peacefully and allow the process to unfold transparently, without tension or division.”

Although Majaliwa did not confirm whether he will run for re-election in Ruangwa, his participation in the voting process drew attention and underscored his strong ties to the constituency.

The CCM primaries are being conducted across the country to identify candidates who will represent the ruling party in the 2025 General Election.

The final list of candidates will be endorsed by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) later this month.

CCM remains the dominant political party in Tanzania, and its internal nominations are closely watched as they often determine the eventual winners in many constituencies.

The Ruangwa constituency, located in Lindi Region, has been a CCM stronghold for decades. Majaliwa’s leadership over the past 15 years has been marked by various development initiatives in infrastructure, health, and education.

Political analysts say the 2025 election cycle is likely to be competitive, and party primaries such as these are crucial in shaping the political landscape ahead of the national vote scheduled for October.

As the nomination process continues, both party leaders and electoral officials have called for transparency and discipline among members to preserve the integrity of the election process.
