Tanzania is mourning the death of veteran politician and former Speaker of Parliament, Job Yustino Ndugai, who passed away today in the capital city, Dodoma, at the age of 62.
His passing was officially announced by the current Speaker of the Tanzanian Parliament and President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Dr. Tulia Ackson, who described Ndugai as a respected national leader and dedicated public servant.
Ndugai served as a Member of Parliament for Kongwa Constituency for many years and held various leadership positions, most notably as Speaker of Parliament. His political career spanned decades and left a lasting mark on Tanzania’s legislative process.
“With deep sorrow, I announce the death of our leader and veteran politician, Hon. Job Ndugai,” said Dr. Ackson in a public statement. “We send our condolences to his family, relatives, and the people of Kongwa.”
The cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
The Parliament Office, in coordination with his family and the national funeral committee, is organizing burial arrangements, and further details will be communicated.
Ndugai’s death marks the end of a significant chapter in Tanzania’s parliamentary history. Known for his strong parliamentary leadership and unwavering loyalty to the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Ndugai helped steer the legislature through complex national reforms.
His death leaves a leadership gap, especially in Kongwa, where he was regarded as a strong political figure and community advocate.
He is survived by his family, and the nation continues to pay tribute to his long-standing service to the country.
