Tanzania’s Mining Commission has emerged as one of the standout institutions at this year’s 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), widely known as Sabasaba, by showcasing its state-of-the-art laboratory services aimed at strengthening transparency and scientific rigour in the country’s mineral sector.

At the centre of the Commission’s exhibition is its advanced laboratory facility, equipped with modern technology including X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis, which enables precise testing of mineral samples.

The service is being used to provide accurate geological data, ensure mineral quality control, and offer expert technical advice to miners, traders, and potential investors.

“These services are critical in enhancing the credibility of the mineral value chain. They support artisanal and small-scale miners in making informed decisions, while also creating a conducive environment for domestic and foreign investment,” said Engineer Mvunilwa Mwarabu, Manager of Laboratory Services at the Mining Commission.

He added that the lab has become a trusted hub for verifying the quality and composition of minerals extracted across the country  from gold and gemstones to industrial minerals  ensuring that all actors in the sector operate with reliable data and high standards.

Visitors to the fair, including prospective miners and youth entrepreneurs, have shown keen interest in the laboratory’s capabilities, praising the initiative as a vital step towards modernising Tanzania’s extractive industries.

The Mining Commission’s participation at the Sabasaba trade fair is part of a broader government effort to promote sustainable and science-driven mining, in line with national development goals.

The Commission is calling on all stakeholders in the mineral sector to make use of its services, which are designed to boost productivity, reduce conflict over mineral values, and elevate the integrity of Tanzania’s mining sector on the global stage.
