Tanzania’s Finance Minister, Dr Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba, has praised the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) for remarkable growth in tax revenue collection under the current government.
Dr Nchemba revealed that tax collections have steadily increased since the Sixth Phase Government took office. In the 2021/22 financial year, TRA collected TZS 22.2 trillion, rising to TZS 24.1 trillion in 2022/23.
The upward trend continued with TZS 27.6 trillion collected in 2023/24. For the fiscal year ending June 2025, TRA surpassed expectations by collecting TZS 32.26 trillion, achieving 103.9% of its target of TZS 31.05 trillion.
Speaking at the official opening of TRA’s five-day Performance Evaluation Workshop at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC), Dr Nchemba welcomed Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, who presided over the event.
The Minister attributed the increased revenue to the authority’s professionalism, dedication, and commitment to integrity and accountability.
He noted that the additional funds have been crucial in financing key development projects across the country.
Dr Nchemba urged officials attending the workshop to use the platform to design robust strategies that will further enhance TRA’s efficiency and contribution to Tanzania’s national development.
