The Government of Tanzania, together with development partners, has agreed to contribute USD 55.86 million (about TSh 161.33 billion) to the Joint Health Basket Fund for the 2025/26 financial year. This fund will support efforts to improve healthcare services across the country.
The agreement signing took place in Dar es Salaam, involving senior officials from the Ministries of Finance, Local Government (TAMISEMI), and Health, along with representatives from development partners.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Minister of Health, Hon. Jenista Mhagama, and Deputy Minister Dr. Festo Dugange from the President’s Office Regional Administration and Local Government.
Dr. Natu El-Maamry Mwamba, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, who also serves as the Government’s Chief Accountant, said this partnership reflects a strong commitment to strengthening Tanzania’s health sector.
He noted that the current funding builds on agreements made in 2021 and will continue until July 2026, when new agreements will be drafted.
On behalf of the Government, Dr. Mwamba thanked the development partners for their valuable support, which will help improve health services for Tanzanians.
He emphasized that the fund’s priorities align with Tanzania’s health sector goals and contribute to the well-being of many citizens beyond healthcare alone.
The development partners contributing to the fund include the governments of Switzerland, Ireland, Canada, the United Kingdom, Denmark, South Korea, UNICEF, UNFPA, and the World Bank.
Dr. Mwamba assured that all funds will be managed with transparency and used strictly for their intended purpose to deliver the best results for the people of Tanzania.
