DAWASA staff told to serve with integrity, avoid corruption

The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) has reminded staff of the Dar es Salaam Water and Sanitation Authority (DAWASA) to maintain honesty and avoid corrupt practices in their daily duties.

The message was delivered by Ms. Janeth Kafuko, an Investigator from PCCB, during a seminar organized to strengthen public service ethics and raise awareness on anti-corruption measures.

“It is a criminal offence for a public servant to cheat or take money illegally, including asking for bribes from customers,” said Ms. Kafuko.

Every employee, according to her, must follow their official duties.

"Working outside your assigned responsibilities can lead to corruption and fraud,” she added

The training focused on guiding staff to understand the importance of ethical behavior, especially for those who interact directly with customers.

CPA Rithamary Lwabulinda, DAWASA’s Director of Customer Service, said that meter readers and other frontline staff play a big role in shaping the institution’s image.

“These workers are important because they meet customers every day. You must be disciplined and respectful to protect the reputation of DAWASA and ensure customers are satisfied,” said CPA Lwabulinda.

She also warned staff not to damage water infrastructure or demand money from customers unlawfully. “Such actions break the law and harm public trust,” she said.

Mr. Calvin James, a DAWASA staff member from Kawe, said the seminar was helpful in teaching them about public service rules and legal procedures.

“This training has given us a better understanding of how to do our jobs properly and the laws we must follow as public servants,” he said.

The seminar is part of DAWASA’s continued efforts to improve service delivery and support the government’s fight against corruption in public institutions.
