Dr. Jim Yonazi, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, and Coordination), chaired a pivotal session of Tanzania’s National Advisory Committee on the 2022 Population and Housing Census today.
The high-level meeting convened senior government officials, sectoral Permanent Secretaries, Census Commissioners, and institutional leaders at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam.
The session marked a key milestone in the country's data-driven policy agenda, focusing on the third and final implementation phase of the 2022 national census Tanzania’s most comprehensive demographic and housing survey to date.
The meeting’s agenda included review and deliberation of several strategic reports that are instrumental in guiding government planning and public sector investment.
Among the documents tabled were the National Guidelines Implementation Report on the Use of Census Results (covering the period from December 2024 to May 2025) and an assessment of the national rollout of residential addressing systems, a critical step toward improving service delivery and urban planning.
Participants also examined five in-depth draft analytical reports detailing findings from the census, alongside a long-term population projection report estimating demographic trends at the regional level through 2050.
These insights are expected to play a central role in Tanzania’s economic forecasting, resource allocation, and infrastructure development strategies.
Tanzania’s 2022 census is widely viewed as a cornerstone for policy modernization, aligning the country’s planning apparatus with global standards in statistical governance.
The committee’s engagement signals continued commitment from the highest levels of government to leverage census data for sustainable development and fiscal efficiency.
