These efforts, she noted, are aimed at transforming the hospital into a center of excellence that meets international standards.

“Muhimbili requires professionalism and administrative competence,” said President Samia. “I reviewed many profiles and concluded that you, Dr. Delilah Kimambo, are the right person to lead this hospital. The President highlighted Muhimbili’s importance as the country’s leading referral hospital and a hub for specialized treatment and medical tourism across East and Central Africa.

She further revealed that the government has secured funding to improve the hospital’s infrastructure, particularly in expanding medical buildings, as part of continued reforms in the health sector.

Dr. Kimambo’s appointment, made official on June 16, 2025, places her at the helm of Tanzania’s flagship health facility at a time when expectations for service delivery and innovation are higher than ever.

Muhimbili National Hospital plays a critical role in Tanzania’s healthcare ecosystem. It not only provides highly specialized services to thousands of patients each year, but also serves as a training ground for medical professionals and a hub for research.

The government’s ongoing reforms are designed to ensure that hospitals like Muhimbili can serve the growing demand for quality healthcare while remaining competitive in the region.

Dr. Kimambo’s leadership is expected to focus on enhancing operational efficiency, patient-centered care, and staff motivation key pillars for the sustainable advancement of Tanzania’s health system.
