Dar es Salaam– The Tanzania Police Force has launched thorough investigations into a series of alarming incidents involving students in Dar es Salaam and Korogwe, which have left the public shaken and authorities calling for increased vigilance.
In Dar es Salaam, a violent robbery targeting university students occurred on the night of June 19, 2025. According to the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, a group of about five armed assailants forcefully entered student hostels at ST Joseph University, located in Mbweni Oceanic, Kinondoni.
The attackers made away with several items including mobile phones, laptops, calculators, and four radios.
"Three students were injured during the incident and were promptly taken to hospital for treatment. Their conditions are stable, and we are pursuing the suspects with all the necessary investigative resources," said the Police in a statement.
Meanwhile, in a separate and tragic incident that took place on June 18 at Mbweni Teta Secondary School in Kawe, Kinondoni, a Form Four student identified as Fastiel John (17) was arrested in connection with the fatal assault of fellow student Sabra Mohamed. Authorities confirmed that the case is being handled with the seriousness it deserves, with legal procedures already underway.
"The death of a student at the hands of another is deeply troubling. We are working closely with the school administration and relevant institutions to ensure justice is delivered," the Police statement added.
In a further case reported on the same day, a Form Three student, Sabitina Daffa Ramadhani (17), was found dead at her home in Majohe Rada, Korogwe District, in what has been described as a suicide.
Police recovered a handwritten note at the scene and have begun investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
These incidents have prompted the Tanzania Police Force to urge parents, educators, and community leaders to heighten their involvement in supporting the mental health and overall safety of young people.
"Violence and emotional distress among students must be urgently addressed. We appeal to all stakeholders to work with us in strengthening protection mechanisms in learning institutions," the Police noted.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any information that may aid ongoing investigations by contacting the Dar es Salaam Police Special Zone through official communication channels.
The Police reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that all individuals implicated in these cases will face the full force of the law, adding that public safety remains a top priority.
