The Flying Family Choir (FFC), a Dar es Salaam-based interdenominational choir, is set to host a special fundraising concert on June 29 aimed at purchasing modern music equipment to enhance their performances.

The concert will take place at Cardinal Rugambwa Hall, located at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Oysterbay, starting at 5:00 PM. Attendees will enjoy an evening of well-curated classical Gospel music, with tickets going for Sh100,000 for adults and Sh50,000 for children.

Speaking ahead of the event, choir leader Innocent Fundisha said the initiative seeks to improve the group’s service to God through access to better sound equipment, including microphones, speakers, and keyboards.

“Our goal is to glorify God through choral music of the highest quality. This concert will also help us connect with supporters and raise the necessary funds to acquire the tools we need,” said Fundisha.

Founded in April 2018 with fewer than 15 members, the Flying Family Choir has grown to 40 active members who come from various Christian denominations. The choir is known for its powerful renditions of classical music pieces and has organized eight major concerts over the years.

Fundisha said the group prides itself on building unity among Christians by singing together despite denominational differences. “We’ve managed to create a space where music becomes a bridge of love and collaboration.”

During the concert, the audience will experience performances of classical works by composers such as George Handel, Wolfgang Mozart, Johann Bach, Joseph Haydn, Felix Mendelssohn, and Antonio Vivaldi. The choir will also perform music by local composers including David Wasonga, John Mgandu, Egidius Mushumbusi, and Mathias Msafiri.

“We’ve put together a rich selection of songs that we believe will inspire, uplift, and entertain. We are calling on all music lovers and families to attend this special evening,” said Fundisha.

Tickets are available at various church offices across the city, including St. Peter’s Oysterbay, KKKT Msasani, Mwenge Catholic Church, and Ilala Anglican Church. They can also be obtained by calling 0764 088 066 or 0712 843 711.

In addition to music, guests will be treated to food and refreshments as part of the experience.

Fundisha noted that despite challenges in learning classical compositions, the choir has managed to master them through dedication and the use of digital tools such as WhatsApp and YouTube for practice.

Each voice section has its own trainer, and rehearsals are held weekly on Sundays. The teaching team comprises 11 professionals with strong backgrounds in music theory, piano, composition, and instruction. The team is led by Mathias Msafiri and includes CPA Innocent Fundisha, Egidius Mushumbusi, Jerry Newman, and others.

The choir is guided by a board of trustees made up of nine members responsible for its strategic direction and long-term vision. The board includes Eng. Anastas Mbawala, Dr. Emmanuel Manase, Fr. Dr. Vincent Mpwaji, Mama Rose Rupia, Rev. Boniface Kombo, Fr. Richard Kamenya, Fr. Michael Ndawile, Prof. Alex Makulilo, and Mama Miriam Solomon.

“Our vision is to be recognised internationally for the quality of our music and the message we carry. This requires commitment, discipline, and proper planning,” said Fundisha.

He encouraged youth to use their talents to serve God, adding that music is a powerful way to avoid negative influences and contribute positively to society.

“We invite everyone with a heart for unity and worship to stand with us. Let’s show that Christians can come together, regardless of denomination, and lift one voice in praise,” he said.

Contributions can be made via M-Pesa using payment number 5226676 or through the choir’s NMB account: 22510097145.
