The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police have announced a series of enhanced security measures ahead of Eid al-Adha, which will be observed nationwide on June 7.

The measures aim to ensure peace and public safety as thousands of Muslims across the city gather for prayers and holiday festivities.

Eid al-Adha, one of the holiest days in the Islamic calendar, typically draws large crowds to mosques and open grounds for communal prayers and family gatherings.

In anticipation, law enforcement authorities have increased personnel deployment at key locations, including prayer sites, public parks, and major roads.

In a public statement, the police urged residents to remain vigilant. Parents and guardians have been specifically advised to closely monitor children during public outings.

Authorities also recommended that homeowners avoid leaving residences unattended, citing a heightened risk of burglary during the holiday period.

Road safety was another focal point of the police briefing. Motorists and other road users were reminded to observe traffic laws to prevent accidents, which tend to spike during holidays due to increased travel and recreational activities.

“These precautions are designed to allow residents to celebrate in an atmosphere of peace and order,” the statement read, adding that police units will be on high alert throughout the holiday.

The emphasis on community responsibility alongside police readiness reflects a growing focus on public safety during major religious events in Tanzania’s largest city.

With a population of over six million and a vibrant mix of cultures, Dar es Salaam often becomes a focal point for national celebrations  and security concerns.

The police concluded by wishing all Muslims a safe and joyful Eid al-Adha, while calling for public cooperation in maintaining calm throughout the festivities.

The Tanzanian government has declared Eid al-Adha a public holiday, and business activity is expected to slow for the day as families come together in observance.
