Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga), in partnership with the GSM Foundation, has donated TZS 50 million to the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) to support children suffering from heart conditions.

The donation was officially handed over on May 12, 2025, at the Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam. Yanga Club President, Eng. Hersi Said, said the funds are aimed at saving the lives of children battling heart disease.

"We are committed to contributing to the well-being of our community. These funds will go directly toward providing life saving treatment to children in need," said Said.

He urged other football clubs, organizations, companies, and stakeholders to join the cause and contribute towards helping children access necessary medical care.

"The need for cardiac care in children is enormous. If we unite, we can reduce or even eliminate this problem. This donation is just the beginning," he added.

GSM Foundation Director, Faith Gugu, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting the government’s health initiatives.

"This TZS 50 million donation is just a starting point. We are determined to continue helping children with heart conditions get the treatment they desperately need," said Gugu.

According to JKCI, approximately 4,000 children are diagnosed with heart disease in Tanzania each year. The support from Yanga and GSM Foundation will make a significant impact.

Dr. Peter Kisenge, Executive Director of JKCI, expressed his gratitude to the donors.

"This contribution brings hope to many families. These children come from very challenging backgrounds, and this support will make a real difference," Dr. Kisenge said.
