Preparations for the eagerly anticipated Higher Education and Samia Cup Finals are in full swing in Dar es Salaam, with the grand finale set to take place on May 17 at the KMC Complex Stadium.
In the championship match, the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) will go head-to-head with the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT).
The day’s action will kick off with a third-place playoff between Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) and St. Joseph University.
To add to the day’s excitement, a women’s exhibition match will serve as the curtain-raiser, featuring KIUT vs. the National Institute of Transport (NIT).
Speaking to The Respondent Online, Cornerio Swai, Director of Cornel Investment, confirmed that the guest of honor has already accepted the invitation verbally, with official confirmation expected soon. The identity of the guest will be announced in due course.
“All teams are well-prepared, and we are expecting a highly competitive and fair final,” Swai said. “As we build up to the big day, we've launched the Higher Education and Samia Cup Week, which includes activities like a marathon, charity events, blood donation drives, and community clean-up campaigns across the city.”
He added that the event will bring together government officials, private sector leaders, distinguished guests, and a top-tier artist who will provide entertainment on the final day.
Swai called on stakeholders, students, and the residents of Dar es Salaam to attend in large numbers and witness emerging sports talent in what is expected to be a historic final.
In related news, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, and Government Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, recently announced that the top four teams will receive the prestigious "Mama's Prize", introduced in honor of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s support for youth and sports development.
