The Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Philip Mpango, has urged ambassadors to actively engage with Tanzanians living in the countries they represent (the diaspora), encouraging them to contribute to the nation’s development through various forms of investment.
During a meeting with the Tanzanian Ambassador to Sweden, Ambassador Mobhare Matinyi, and the Tanzanian Ambassador to Mozambique, Ambassador Hamad Khamis Hamad, held at the State House in Chamwino, Dodoma, on April 9, 2025, Dr. Mpango stated, "It is essential to recognize Tanzanians in the diaspora for their expertise, education, and entrepreneurial activities. I encourage you to engage them and create opportunities for them to invest in their home country."
He further added, "We must ensure that the diaspora remains connected with Tanzania, not just by investing in businesses, but also by supporting their families' education and contributing to the construction of homes and commercial buildings. This is critical for both national development and strengthening the bonds with our diaspora."
The Vice President congratulated the ambassadors on their appointments by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, "I commend you for being appointed by our President to represent our nation. Continue building on the strong relationship Tanzania has with Sweden and Mozambique."
He emphasized the importance of staying informed about the nation's progress, stating, "As ambassadors, it is vital to stay updated on the developments in Tanzania so that you can represent the country effectively, especially in implementing our economic diplomacy."
Regarding investment opportunities, he stated, "Tanzania has abundant natural resources, and it is crucial for you to promote these opportunities to attract investors from the countries you represent. We want to show that Tanzania is a land of opportunities."
He also urged them to gain an understanding of the economic dynamics of their host countries, saying, "You must know the opportunities, economic growth areas, and key industries of the nations you represent, as this will help foster collaboration and attract investments."
The Vice President stressed the importance of understanding the nation's development priorities, mentioning, "Familiarize yourselves with Tanzania’s Vision, the CCM Election Manifesto, and our five-year and annual development plans. This knowledge will guide your diplomatic efforts and ensure that Tanzania’s interests are well represented."
He further highlighted the importance of promoting the Kiswahili language in the countries they serve, adding, "It is also essential to promote Kiswahili abroad, especially through job creation for teachers and translators. This will help foster cultural exchange and strengthen our global presence."
On trade relations, Hon. Dr. Mpango said, "Seek out new markets for Tanzanian products and connect our people with business opportunities. This will not only boost trade but will help create more opportunities for our citizens."
In relation to technology, he emphasized the need for collaboration with technologically advanced nations, saying, "We must ensure that Tanzania benefits from technology, particularly in sectors like agriculture and industry. Seek partnerships that can advance our technological capabilities."
He also called for more opportunities for youth training, adding, "Explore programs that offer training for our youth and work towards strengthening technical education and research partnerships."
Finally, he urged the ambassadors to promote Tanzania's tourism and environmental cooperation, stating, "It is crucial to promote Tanzania as a tourist destination, cooperate on environmental matters, and work to attract investment in the health sector, particularly in the establishment of pharmaceutical industries."
